Spaghetti Bolognese
A rich homemade Bolognese sauce with ground beef, carrot, celery and warm spices, simmered until thick and served over spaghetti. A comforting family favorite.

Ingredients
- 1 package spaghetti
- 1 medium white onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 medium carrot, finely diced or grated
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 200 g tomato paste (or a jar of ready tomato sauce for a shortcut)
- 1.5 cups water
- 1 tsp shawarma spice mix
- 1 tsp sweet paprika
- Salt to taste
- A little olive or canola oil for frying
Instructions

Heat a wide pan or pot with a little oil.

Add the onion, carrot and celery and saute for 4-5 minutes until golden and slightly softened.

Add the garlic and saute for about 30 seconds.

Season with the shawarma spice, paprika and salt and stir into the vegetables.

Add the ground beef, stir and cook until it breaks apart and changes color.

Add the tomato paste and water, stir and cook over medium-high heat for 10-12 minutes, until the sauce reduces and thickens.

Meanwhile, bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions.

Drain the pasta, toss with the sauce and serve hot.
